![]() You get the full display rather than LED indicators of the Rad Runner. The Turn fits two child seats while it looks like the Rad Runner will only do one. The Tern might get better range given its mid-drive system. Like, it does have a 400lb payload capacity vs 300lb for the Rad Runner. I love my mid-drive bike, but I don't think I'd spend $4,000 on the Tern without a huge reason for it. However, given that it's literally more than 3x the price, maybe figuring out what you want to spend should be part of the equation. Even if you can't ride the Tern, you could certainly ride something with the same Bosch motor with no throttle and see how you like it. The Tern seems like a bike that you could find at a local bike shop and test ride. There's just a lot of space to accommodate the sprockets. It doesn't look like there would be much room to add gears. That will certainly help alleviate some of that. The Rad Runner has only one speed for the pedal drivetrain, but it is using a geared hub motor. ![]() However, I could certainly understand someone wanting to just use a throttle. I have a bike without a throttle (Shimano STEPS) and it's easy to dial up the assist to high and then just use the pedals as a speed sensor system. Bosch has been reasonably vocal about making it as hard as possible (or impossible) for people to modify bikes with their systems. I think it would be very hard to add a throttle to the Tern. My question is how hard would it be to add a gearing system to the rad runner, or if it’s even possible to add a throttle to the tern gsd?Īny input would be much appreciated! Also any other suggestions are welcome too!įeels like you're looking at two very different bikes. ( I don’t need a ginormous cargo bike that I’d have to carry up and down a flight of stairs) They’re both the same length as a regular bike which is something I’m looking for. However, the GSD is only pedal assist (torque sensing, which is actually very nice) but it doesn’t have a throttle that I’m so used to having, while the rad runner has throttle, but is only one speed with no gears. I’m torn between these two “compact cargo bikes.” The Tern GSD S10 or the Rad Runner. I’m planning on getting rid of my car by the end of the year so I wanted something I can commute to work on, as well as haul a bunch of stuff or even a person on the back. So, I wasn’t planning on a new e bike for another few years, but getting hit by a car screwed that up and now it’s totaled and I have to get a new bike.
